WOMAN OF PEARLS: TIN MAGSASAY- MATIC: Co Proprietor of Locavore Kitchen and Drinks

Tin Magsaysay Matic grew up in a home where food was the love language. When she and her partners opened the doors of LOCAVORE Kitchen and Drinks on Brixton Street, Kapitolyo  in 2013, the concept felt much like a culmination of her food adventures both in the kitchen and around the world. “I have been in the kitchen trying to come up with new things since I was eight,” Tin remembers. “It’s the same with surfing and real estate. They also all started with a thought or dream. The universe is always listering.” This sense of curiosity and wanderlust has opened countless doors for young the entrepreneur.

More currently, Tin is in what she calls her “build mode,” adding, "I'll keep it close for now.” She is, however, in a constant state of discovery. “There are always new things coming up in food, and there are always people who inspire. Last week, I went to La Union with my family and we spent so much time exploring food concepts run by friends. I was just so impressed and inspired by women-mother-entrepreneurs doing incredible things.”

  1. For people who aspire for similar careers, what would be your advice?

Stay curious, stay open, ask the "dumb" questions, experiment, be generous. And get good lawyers.

  1. What inspired you to break the glass or mold?

I just want my kids to be proud of me.

  1. How do you balance work and family life? What are activities that enable you to bond with family?

Luckily, it's easy for me to combine family time with food and travelling.

A few months ago, in a moment where I was feeling like I was losing my bearings,  I sat up on my bed and decided to write down the things that make me happy. That’s when I realized I had stopped doing some of the things that make me happiest. I also started remembering serious life goals when I was younger. So I’m starting to get back on track with these goals.

Surfing also  helps. Nothing resets my spirit and energy like surfing.

  1. How do you unwind or rewind?

Surfing and early morning workouts are sacred to me now.

  1.  What do you consider to be “hazards of the job?”

Taxes. Nuff said.

  1. How would you describe your personal style? What are your three wardrobe essentials?

Simple and comfortable. My essentials are a great white shirt, good fitting blue jeans and interesting jewelry.

  1. What makes for a good investment piece?

A gold vintage timepiece, a signet ring, and dainty, drop pearl earrings.

  1. What do pearls mean to you?

Pearls remind me of the ocean. Whenever I see somebody wearing pearls, I immediately think of them as fresh, simple yet elegant.

  1. What is everyday luxury for you?

Everyday luxury is realizing that I already have enough and everything else is just a plus.
